This second of two required years of writing in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at N.T.U. covers expository writing in a variety of modes such as description, narration, argumentation, causation, illustration, definition, etc. This instructor uses the process methodology, i.e., students will be required to write two drafts before each final paper is submitted.
An initial period of grammar review by sentential structure is followed by the writing of compositions as above. A final mini-research paper (four to six pages long, three to five bibliographic sources cited) will round off the course, as an introduction to research writing. Grades will be given based on progress made in revision, originality of work, on-time submission of work, etc.
Two textbooks and a notebook plus plenty of typing paper are required.
